In September MHCLG published a set of FAQs to Approved Document L - Energy and greenhouse gas emissions.
The questions include:
- How do I calculate the efficiency of a solar PV panel?
- Can I choose to install photovoltaic panels on the roof space of a detached garage to meet the required output of Requirement L3?
- What factors could be considered when determining if an onsite renewable electricity generation system and its electrical output are ‘appropriately’ sized for the site and available infrastructure?
- What does it mean for electricity generated from a photovoltaic array to be available for the use of residents in buildings containing dwellings (e.g. blocks of flats)?
- What dimension of PV panel should I use when determining the size of a PV array that covers the ‘reasonably practicable roof area’?
The Future Homes Standard – which includes changes to Approved Documents L and F comes into force in March 2027. The Standard will fundamentally change how new homes and buildings are constructed.
