About Simon Dovell
Simon is the SOCOTEC Building Control Commercial Director based in London and a Class 3H/4 Registered Building Inspector with a career spanning over 35 years in Building Control. His career began in 1989 at a Local Authority, before moving to Butler & Young Ltd in 2003 as a Senior Project Manager, where he was later promoted to Manager for the South West of England. He went on to spend 10 years at JHAI Ltd and 3 years at Stoma Building Control.
With over 20 years in leadership roles, Simon specialises in strategic growth, operational excellence and compliance within the construction industry. He has a proven ability to lead high-performing teams, manage budgets, and deliver client-focused services aligned with organisational objectives, combining strong technical expertise with a collaborative leadership style to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
His extensive experience spans Surveying, Construction, Value Engineering, Commercial Management and Project Planning which has been endorsed by colleagues across every company he has worked for. This depth of expertise, together with his status as a Class 3H/4 Registered Building Inspector, means Simon brings valuable strategic insight and technical knowledge to SOCOTEC Building Control's operations.
